The “Hybrid Putt-Chip”
My Secret Weapon With Extra Sauce!
I strongly believe that hybrids and fairway woods are not used enough around the green. Yes, there is a learning curve when it comes to distance control, but practice solves that quickly!
The hybrid putt-chip is played with the same essentials as the regular putt-chip, although with one difference. Play the ball in line with the inside of your trail heel.
Yes, the hybrid's club face is a little springy, so distance control takes a little practice. But that springiness helps the ball get through the thicker, sticky fringe.
If there is one shot that the weekend golfer underutilizes, this is high on the list!
A fairway wood is a great substitute if you don’t have a hybrid. In particular, a 5-wood!
The hybrid or fairway wood putt-chip also works great when the ball is nestled up against the collar or rough!
Hot Tip:
Choke well down the club! As in, hold on to the graphite shaft!
The goal is to feel like you are in a putting set up position.
All you need to do is get a feel for speed. Contact is a breeze if you hold down the shaft enough!
