Birdies Drill
Putting Speed & Accuracy Drill
This drill is mostly a speed drill, although it does incorporate accuracy as well. The main objective of this drill is to establish “optimal holing (capture) speed.”
Equipment Needed
3 Golf Balls
6 Tees
The Set Up
Find a level or slight uphill putt (25-30 feet long)
Place a tee (A) 8-yards from the cup.
Place tees as shown to create the “D” around the cup, which is the zone your balls must finish in. Tees are one putter length (3-feet) from the edge of the cup. The zone starts level with the front edge of the cup.
How to Score
1. Each ball represents a “hole” of a round. You will play “9 holes” total.
2. Start by putting three balls from tee (A).
3. If you make your ball in the hole you score a BIRDIE.
4. If your ball finishes inside the “D” you score a PAR.
5. If your ball finishes outside the “D” you score a BOGEY.
6. After hitting three puts from tee (A), reset this set up of a different break and hit three more putts.
7. Repeat step 6 so that you have hit three puts at three locations, totaling 9 putts or “9 holes”.
Be sure to use your pre-shot routine on each putt. Remember, “Practice like you play, Practice like a champion, Play like a champion!”
