Trail Hand Errors

Cause and Effect - Hook

Do you suffer from the occasional (or more than occasional) hook?

There’s every chance it could be your grip and, more specifically, your trail hand.

Let’s look at what a strong trail hand grip looks like, and how to make the necessary adjustment to stop hooking the ball!

Error: Strong Trail Hand.

When the trail hand gets too strong, it is likely that the hands will over-rotate through impact.

This will result in the club face being too closed and a ball flight that hooks.

Correction: Neutral Trail Hand.

Covering the trail thumb will help square the face and reduce the hook.

If you are someone who has a strong trail hand grip, keep an eye on it regularly. It will want to sneak back to what’s comfortable!
